Learning objectives

By the end of the class, Ss will be able to

Ø Language knowledge

learn to use the new expressions, such as lay, dessert, admire….

Ø Cultural awareness

appreciate our Chinese traditional culture and understand the meaning of “full feelings”.

Ø Thinking quality

  Understand the relations among the four characters and learn to tell the story logically.

Ø Learning capacity

develop the skills of skimming and scanning as well as communication.

Teaching procedure

Pre-reading (5mins)

Activity1 Prediction

Draw a circle on the blackboard and ask Ss to guess what it can be.

Show Ss a picture about a lady flying to the moon and ask Ss to guess who the lady is.

Intention: to create a topic-related context to arouse Ss’ interests and lead in the topic naturally.

While-reading (18mins)

Activity2 Fast reading

Read the passage as quickly as possible and circle the main characters in it.

Intention: to help Ss have a general idea of the passage.

Activity3 Careful reading

Read the passage carefully with the question What happened to these four persons?. Then work in pairs to finish the mind-map with some verbs or verb phrases.

Intention: to help Ss understand the relations among the four characters remember the story easily.

Post-reading (15mins)

Activity4 Role Play the story:

Work in groups of four and play the role of Goddess, Chang’e, Hou Yi and Pang Meng respectively.

Activity5 Discussion:

Discuss the title Full Moon, Full Feelings, especially the meaning of full feelings.

And tell what else in our daily life gives us full feelings?

Intention: to help Ss experience the beauty of literature and develop their creative thinking ability.

Homework (2mins)

Compulsory: You should get more familiar with the story and retell it in your own words.

Optional: If you can, write a happy ending for Chang’e and Hou Yi.
