How to make a balance between learning Chinese and English

Nowadays, it is necessary for primary students to learn foreign languages, predominantly English. However, there are less time for students to learn Chinese which embodies our traditional culture of over 5,000years. Personally, students in primary school should try to balance learning Chinese and English.

First and foremost, teachers should provide a learning environment for students to learn English and cultivate student's autonomous learning ability, for primary students' ability of using English is limited, their abstract thinking is not fully developed and they can be easily distracted. As we all know, language is the carrier of culture, school teachers should not ignore the learning of Chinese and Chinese culture meanwhile. Secondly, as a saying goes, interest is the best teacher, so parents should devote to cultivating students interest in both Chinese and English. Last but not least, students should allocate their time properly.

In conclusion, Chinese and English are equally important for pupils development, so they should keep a balance between the learning of Chinese and English.

Multimedia: Good or Bad?

Recently,there is a heated discussion about multimedia teaching. With the popularity of computer and the consummation of multimedia facilities, multimedia has become increasingly important in our ordinary teaching. Some teachers even abandon the use of blackboard. As far as I am concerned, multimedia has its benefits in some ways, but we can not abandon traditional teaching.

Firstly, multimedia can help to present pictures, videos or other things, which can make the lesson more vivid and attractive. Conversely, traditional teaching can show the key points and difficult points on the blackboard. Secondly, multimedia teaching can present a wide scope of content and enrich the lesson. However, multimedia drops the communication between students and teachers, therefore, teachers can’t comprehend students' inward feelings, which has difficult helping with their students to some extent. Contrarily, students can share their own thoughts and feelings easily using traditional teaching.

In a word, we should combine the use of multimedia teaching and traditional teaching. Only in this way, can we not only arouse students' interests, but also prompt students' learning.

Which teaching method do you prefer, lecture system or discussion system？

There are two major teaching methods in schools: the lecture system and the discussion system.

The two teaching methods have their own strengths and weaknesses respectively. On one hand, the lecture system can help to learn so quickly and much more that some people like it. An authoritative figure alone are able to shape the course, and so lectures remain highly consistent when it comes to what kind of information is delivered, and how it’s delivered. On the contrary, the lecture method has apparent disadvantages.Students will cultivate a bad habit of passive learning, which means students may be reticent about letting instructors know they do not understand key information and they may be reluctant to ask questions in class. On the other hand, the discussion system encourages students to form their own ideas and opinion. To engage in frequent and even heated debates, you have to do a lot of homework beforehand, find answers yourselves and thus you develop the analytical skills which benefit both your study habit and your future life. However, a coin has two sides, students can not learn systematically through this method.

As far as I am concerned, both of them are necessary in school, so, it is important to combine these two methods together. Only in this way, students can have an overall development.

The importance of lifelong learning to a teacher

Currently, the concept of life-long learning has been brought into most teachers' focus. A growing number of teachers are pursuing life-long learning in their teaching career. Why do so many teachers put an emphasis on studying in their lifetime.

The reason accounting for this lies in the following aspects. First and foremost, it is universally acknowledged that the ever changing society require everyone to keep up with its progress, let alone teachers. If a teacher fails to absorb knowledge through learning, he or she is bound to be kicked out. In addition, teachers are commonly defined as the knowledge imparter and problem solver. Only through life-long learning can teachers cater to students' continuous thirst for advanced knowledge and skills. In the final the capacity of all the life learning is an indispensable professional competence of a qualified teacher. Teachers should keep an close eye on the newest teaching theories and enhance their teaching abilities continuously.

In my point of view, under no circumstance can our teachers abandon life-long learning. To be a qualified teacher, we should spare no efforts to keep studying the advanced teaching approaches to meet diversified students' needs and surpass ourselves.
